Walt Disney World has brought in the New Year with a bang, releasing 2 new offers on January 2nd. The Big one is Free Dining, released for new dates, including the summer months. Also, Disney released a Room Offer for dates in both the Spring and Summer. Here are all the details:
The first (and most surprising) reveal was the fact that the Delicious Free Offer (Free Dining) has been released early this year, and for earlier dates than normal. Here are the Free Dining details:
- Guests must book through February 10, 2019 for arrivals most nights July 5 through September 30, 2019
- You can enjoy a free dining plan when you purchase a non-discounted 5-night/6-day vacation packages that includes a room at a select Disney Resort hotel and a ticket with a Park Hopper Option (or Park Hopper Plus Option).
- Guests who book rooms at Select Disney Deluxe Resort Hotels and/or Disney Deluxe Villas are eligible for a free Disney Dining Plan
- Guests who book rooms at Select Disney Moderate Resorts and/or Value Resorts are eligible for a free Quick Service Dining Plan
The Free Dining Offer excludes its usual room types: 3-bedroom villas, campsites, Cabins at Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Bungalows at Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, and the Little Mermaid Standard Rooms at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.
The details are business as usual for Disney, with the Deluxe Resorts getting a free Disney Dining Plan and the Moderate and Value Resorts getting the free Quick Service Dining Plan. However, if you’re staying at a Moderate or Value Resort, you can pay the difference between the DDP and the Quick-Service Plan if you want to upgrade.
The thing that is unusual about the Free Dining Offer is the fact that it has come out this early, and for dates earlier than ever before. Normally, the offer is released in late April/early May, but we’ve started 2019 off with the most popular discount of the year.
The offer dates, while a little surprising, are likely due to a few factors. Firstly, the summer months have seen a slight decrease in attendance, likely because of the peak-season pricing and the sweltering weather.
The other, less surprising reason is because Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios sometime in the Fall. Disney anticipates that they likely will not need much of an offer to incentivize people to travel to Walt Disney World once that is open as it could be the busiest attendance that Disney has ever seen. The fact that Free Dining is only offered until the end of September should give a good indication for roughly the time that Disney expects that new land to be open.
Now, for the second offer…
Sun & Fun Room Offer
There is a new Sun & Fun Room Offer for the Spring and Summertime, with savings on rooms at select Disney Resort hotels:
- Guests can save up to 25% for stays most nights April 28 through May 27, 2019 when they book through May 27, 2019
- Guests can save up to 30% for stays most nights May 28 through September 30, 2019 when they book through March 24, 2019
The savings will depend on which dates you book and what Resort you are visiting. Surprisingly, the lowest savings (10%) is on Disney’s Port Orleans Resort, both French Quarter and Riverside. The Value Resorts range in savings from 15% to 20% depending on which dates you visit.
For the other Moderate Resorts, you can save 25% off rooms and for Deluxe Resorts, the savings will range from 15% to 30% depending on which resort and the dates you visit.
For Canadians, the extra bonus here is that you should be able to save using the Room-Offer as well as the Canadian Resident Tickets. The tricky part is that Canadian Resident Tickets must be purchased by March 15th (see the details here). The potential savings of both the Room Offer and Canadian Resident Tickets can be quite significant, especially if you’re not big eaters or aren’t traveling with a large family.
