Walt Disney World
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Kick-Off
With Halloween just a blip in the rearview mirror of the Disney calendar, the holiday season has begun at Walt Disney World. Christmas decorations have begun to pop up all over and the Magic Kingdom is decked out in all of its holiday splendour. This past week, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party had its first official night with a debut of the brand new fireworks spectacular – Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks. The Disney Parks Blog live-streamed the event, and you can watch the replay here:
Check out our Guide to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. We know that Disney has increased the capacity of this party over the years and it can be busy, depending on the day you visit, but it’s still a must-do in our books. If you’re visiting during the holidays, it just makes sense to experience all that the party has to offer. Who wouldn’t want to see it snow on Main Street, U.S.A?
Holidays at Animal Kingdom
Making its debut this week are the incredible new additions to Animal Kingdom, just in time for the holidays. New winter lanterns adorn the buildings in the Asia part of the park as the Holiday Festival of Lights, Diwali, is in full-swing.
Life-sized animal puppets can be seen walking around Discovery Island, interacting with guests. Polar bears, penguins, seals and more are some of the most unique additions we’ve seen to the park. We love seeing Disney invest in live-performers as they have withdrawn a fair amount in that department. There’s something extra magical about experiencing something new at Disney right in front of you. Reach out and touch the puppets as they wander about. This winter wonder will only be around until the end of the year.
Capping off the night at Animal Kingdom now includes new Holiday Tree of Life Awakenings. The projection show on the Tree of Life now features holiday stories and new musical scores to really bring the season to life. We love this little show, as it’s the perfect way to finish off a day in the park. The fact that they have holiday stories makes it even better now.
New Exhibit in Morocco Pavilion
In the midst of the start of the holiday season, the Morocco Pavilion has opened a new exhibit in the Gallery of Arts and History. Tucked inside the pavilion, this space now houses “Race Against the Sun: Ancient Technique to Modern Competition”. Inside, there are two historic races that get highlighted here. The Marathon of the Sands is a 6-day, 155-mile race across the Saraha desert, while the Rally of the Gazelles is an all-women off-road race.
We love to see the Epcot pavilions showcasing the history and heritage of their countries. It really brings us back to the original purpose of the World Showcase, which was sharing and learning about the cultures of the different countries represented.
Not to be outdone by its East coast partner, Disneyland has kicked off its holiday celebrations as well. The Disney Festival of Holidays returns to Disney California Adventure park, celebrating Diwali, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Navidad, Three Kings Day and Christmas. Cars Land has been given its holiday makeover and the World of Color – Season of Light returns to Paradise Bay.
Debuting in Disney California Adventure park is an all-new character celebration, “Mickey’s Happy Holidays” running twice daily at Paradise Gardens Park and Carthay Circle
At Disneyland, Sleeping Beauty’s Castle has its yearly winterizing. Snow, icicles and twinkling lights now cover the castle and really set the holiday mood in the park. The daily “A Christmas Fantasy” parade returns to the park as well as the “Believe…In Holiday Magic” fireworks spectacular.
Book at The Art of Marvel
Next summer, guests will be able to stay at the reimagined resort – Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel. Featuring an homage to super heroes, this hotel is accepting reservations as early as June 15th, 2020. Guests who book a stay by December 4th will also receive a limited-edition piece of Marvel artwork in an Art Deco-style, depicting the super heroes standing together in front of a New York skyscraper. The limited-time offer includes breakfast and either lunch or dinner included per person, per night booked. It’s Disney’s way of encouraging guests to try the hotel’s two new restaurants: the Manhattan Restaurant and Downtown Restaurant.
