Jungle Cruise Trailer
This isn’t really park news, but the new trailer for Jungle Cruise was released this week. Based on the attraction at both Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World, this movie is sure to pay a decent amount of homage to the rides. In the trailer alone, we’re seeing subtle (and let’s be honest, not-so-subtle) nods to the spirit of the Jungle Cruise. Staring Emily Blunt and Dwayne (the Rock) Johnson, you can check out the trailer here:
If I were to hazard a guess, I’d say that most of the Jungle Cruise “attraction” puns, jokes and nods will take place in the very first act of the movie, before moving along to the actual storyline. There’s one thing that’s for certain, however. If the movie does well at the box-office, expect a sequel in the works, if they haven’t already started.

The Enchanted Rose Opens
To be honest, it feels like it was just yesterday that we were hearing the announcement for the Enchanted Rose at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. This week, we’re celebrating the grand opening of this Beauty and the Beast-inspired lounge. As expected, it looks lovely inside, with elegant touches throughout the lounge.
It fits in very nicely with the Grand Floridian aesthetic and certain seating offers a great view outside, including an intimate outdoor patio. On the second floor of the resort, the lounge offers an elevated view of the grounds, all from very comfortable seating.
The menu features a few starters, available from 5pm-10pm, but the majority of the focus is on the drinks menu. This lounge is meant for you to relax and soak in the atmosphere as you enjoy your company and all the menu has to offer. There are no reservations to be made for this lounge, but there are a number of places to sit, either at the bar or in the rest of the lounge.
Taste Your Way through Animal Kingdom
This week, Disney announced that they would be offering a rather unique way to experience the dining in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Guests can purchase a gift card through the Walt Disney World gift card site and there are a few bonuses that come along with it. For $50 USD, guests can receive a digital gift card (with a $50 value) as well as a $10 value digital gift card that is redeemable after 4pm between December 22nd, 2019 and January 4th, 2020 at 4 select locations. In addition, guests will also receive two reserved seats for the second showing of Rivers of Light: We Are One, which are also redeemable between December 22 and January 4th.
This is a bit of an odd offer. It’s highly specific, with a number of conditions (see here, please). I think the idea is to encourage guests to try snacks and treats from a number of different locations around Animal Kingdom. Unfortunately, $50 wouldn’t go too far for meals alone. The bonus $10, available after 4pm and only between Dec 22 and Jan 4 seems like such a short window. I guess they’re trying to keep guests in the park later in the day during that period.
The Rivers of Light reserved seating is a nice bonus, and I’m sure it may come in handy during the busy holiday weeks, but I’m not sure who this offer is marketed to. It was fairly confusing at first, and I had to read through the details several times to get an idea of how limited the bonus is. Is it worth it? Well, if you are planning on visiting Walt Disney World and your dates overlap within this 2-week window, it might be worth it. It’s an extra $10 towards a meal and a couple of reserved seats for Rivers of Light, just for buying a dining gift card for $50. Your cards can’t be used outside of Animal Kingdom, so make sure you want $50 worth of snacks before making the commitment.
As tough as it is to accept, the holiday season is approaching quickly (at least, in terms of Disney planning). This week, Disney Imagineers got their first opportunity to test projections onto the Tree of Life. This winter holiday-themed “Tree of Life: Awakenings” will feature new scenes and a new musical score. You can check out some of the test footage here:
I’m personally, really excited for this new addition to the holidays at Animal Kingdom. New holiday lanterns will adorn the buildings and artisan-sculpted puppets will wander around Discovery Island. All that and a few more touches to the park, and the holidays should come alive. Lauren and I love ending a day at Animal Kingdom with Awakenings on the Tree of Life. You can bet we’ll be staying to watch the new one, this holiday season.
